DU and Dhaka College students clash at midnight

A chase and clash broke out between students of Dhaka University and Dhaka College at midnight. Several people, including journalists, were injured in the incident.

The tension began in the capital's Nilkhet and New Market areas at midnight on Sunday (October 12). At that time, the entire area turned into a battlefield with bricks and stones being thrown by both sides.

On the spot, it was seen that student leaders including Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) Vice President (VP) Sadiq Kayem were trying to calm the situation. At the same time, a large number of police have been deployed in Nilkhet and New Market areas to control the situation. At present, the situation is tense.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) New Market Zone AC Mohammad Jahangir said that tension arose due to setting up shops on the sidewalk in front of DU's Shahnewaz Hall. As a result, a chase and clash broke out between students of Dhaka University and Dhaka College. Law enforcement forces removed both sides and sufficient police personnel were deployed to control the situation. The situation is currently normal.

He added that the incident will be investigated to see what actually happened. If legal action is required, it will be taken. He could not immediately give any news of casualties.
