Desk News || A case has been filed against 13 officials and employees of the July Shaheed Smriti Foundation for allegedly beating and torturing July fighter Bulbul Sikder and his wife in the name of interrogation. At the same time, the court has ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police to investigate the case.Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana issued the order on Tuesday (October 14) after taking the statement of the victim's wife Sabina Yasmin, the plaintiff in the case.The accused in the case are - Senior Verification Officer Iftekhar Hossain, Officer Sagar, Officer Mehedi Hasan Prince, Executive Member Sabrina Afroz Srabanti, Officer Afzalu Rahman Sayem, Officer Saidur Rahman Shahid, Officer Fatema Afrin Payel, Officer Reza Tanvir, Rakin, Shamim Reza Khan, Sonia Akhter Lubna, Officer Alif, Officer Zahid.The case's application states that on July 19, 2024, during the anti-fascist monsoon revolution, when the plaintiff's husband and son reached the Madani Nagar Madrasa on Chittagong Road on a motorcycle, police and government terrorists opened fire and attacked the protesting crowd. In this incident, the plaintiff's husband and son were seriously injured—the husband suffered a serious injury below the knee and the son's leg was broken.When the plaintiff went to the office of the Shaheed Smriti Foundation with her husband on March 20, 2025, demanding recognition and compensation for the injured after the fall of fascism, the foundation's official Iftekhar Hossain and other defendants interrogated them. At one stage, the plaintiff's husband was taken to a separate room and physically tortured for several hours, and the plaintiff was also intimidated and beaten.The plaintiff alleges that the defendants threatened them by calling them fake July fighters, tried to forcefully extract false confessions, and snatched the plaintiff's bag and mobile phone. As a result of the torture, the plaintiff's husband became mentally ill and underwent treatment for a long time. Later, after recovering somewhat, the plaintiff filed this case in court.
