Locals have arrested Shaharul Islam, the general secretary of Jessore Sadar Upazila Awami League and former chairman of Arabpur Union, and handed him over to the police.On Thursday (October 30), around 9:30 pm, he was arrested from the Dhaka Shishu Mela on charges of conducting various activities in favor of the Awami League and handed him over to the police of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station by the local people. He is currently in police custody.This matter was confirmed by the officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station, Imamul Haque.Meanwhile, a case was filed against Shaharul Islam at the Kotwali Police Station in Jessore on the same day.According to Shaharul's close friends, he used to move around the area regularly and the locals knew that he was involved in Awami League politics. In addition, he often came live on Facebook and spoke in favor of the Awami League. He had been in hiding in Dhaka for a long time.On Wednesday (October 29), two people were arrested while trying to hold banners for a Jubo League protest procession. A case was filed against him and 10 others at Jessore Kotwali Police Station on Thursday (October 30) in this incident.Imamul Haque, officer-in-charge of Dhaka Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station, said, "Suddenly, news came that the local people were planning to sabotage and arrested one person. Later, our team went to the spot and took him into custody. Interrogation is underway. Details will be announced later."In this regard, Jessore Additional Superintendent of Police (K-Circle) Ahsan Habib said, "We have just received the news. The concerned police station informed us. However, it is not yet certain whether a new case will be filed against him or whether he will be shown arrested in the Jessore case."It is worth noting that Shaharul Islam is an accused in the chargesheet of the much-discussed Dada Ripon murder case in Jessore.
