The Vice-Chancellor of the National University (NU), Professor A.S.M. Amanullah, has announced that the university’s decision to reduce various examination fees will take effect from the Honours third year. Students who have already completed registration will have their fees adjusted later.In a Facebook post on Friday (October 31), the Vice-Chancellor said, “Considering the inconvenience faced by students, the National University has taken steps to bring different examination fees to a reasonable level. The decision will be implemented from the Honours third year. Those who have already filled out their forms will have their fees adjusted accordingly.”Professor Amanullah further mentioned that the existing fees would be significantly reduced, and an official announcement would be made soon.Earlier, on Thursday (October 30), the university’s Public Relations Office issued a press release stating that a preliminary decision had been made to reduce examination fees in response to student concerns. The decision came following an emergency meeting attended by the Registrar, Controller of Examinations, Proctor, other departmental heads, and college principals.According to the press release, since many students have already registered online for ongoing examinations (Honours third year), the decision will be implemented from the Honours Part-4, Pass Course Part-2, and all subsequent examinations.It may be mentioned that Honours third-year students have been staging continuous demonstrations in recent weeks protesting the fee hike. Some student groups also demanded the Vice-Chancellor’s resignation.
