|| Awami League will not be able to participate in the 13th national parliamentary elections due to its activities being banned under the country's anti-terrorism law and the Election Commission suspending its registration, said Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus. ‎‎‎He made this statement during a meeting with Baroness Jenny Chapman, UK Minister for International Development, at the State Guest House Jamuna on Thursday (November 14) evening. ‎‎‎During the meeting, they discussed various issues including the upcoming February elections, curbing illegal immigration, increasing trade, the Rohingya crisis, and strengthening cooperation in the air and maritime transport sectors. ‎‎Dr. Yunus said, “The elections will be held in the first half of February as per the scheduled schedule. These elections will be inclusive and participatory and will see a large number of voters present.” ‎‎‎The chief advisor also expressed hope that millions of young people will be able to vote for the first time this time, as there have been three rigged elections during the past 16 years of dictatorship. ‎‎He said, ‘The July National Charter will serve as a new beginning for Bangladesh. It is a reflection of the aspirations of millions of people in the mass uprisings that took place in July and August last year.’ ‎‎Minister Chapman thanked Professor Yunus for his leadership of the interim government since taking office and praised the ongoing dialogue between the National Consensus Commission and various political parties around the July Charter. ‎‎Chapman expressed concern about the abuse of the UK asylum system, which is being carried out by migrants from various countries, including Bangladesh. He highlighted the importance of safe and legal migration and the need to stop exploitation. ‎‎Dr. Yunus agreed at the time, saying, ‘The government is committed to ensuring safe migration and encouraging more Bangladeshis to go abroad legally.’ ‎‎They also discussed the Rohingya crisis and the need to continue humanitarian assistance for the more than one million refugees living in Bangladesh. ‎The chief advisor said, ‘The youth of the Rohingya camps are growing up without any hope. We have to ensure their education system.’ ‎The meeting also discussed opportunities to further enhance trade and cooperation between Dhaka and London. The chief advisor said that Bangladesh is buying a British research ship for marine research in the Bay of Bengal.
