Desk News || Speaking at a reception organized at Senakunj on the occasion of Armed Forces Day-2025, Principal Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus said that an election will be held soon, which will be an important step in the journey towards a new Bangladesh. He expressed hope that the election will be beautiful, joyful and festive.Professor Yunus also said that the upcoming election is an important chapter for the democratic transition of Bangladesh. He called on the members of the armed forces to perform their duties with skill and professionalism to ensure a smooth and festive organization of the election.He mentioned that the armed forces have always been by the side of the people in protecting independence, sovereignty, and in rebuilding the country and dealing with national disasters. The forces have also maintained the trust of the people in the 2024 student uprising and the ongoing reform activities. He believes that the Bangladeshi armed forces, loyal to democratic and systematic leadership, will maintain this continuity with a combination of professional skills and patriotism.The Chief Advisor said that as a peace-loving nation, Bangladesh believes in respectful coexistence with all friendly countries. However, it must always be ready to protect the country's sovereignty from any aggressive attack. To this end, the work of modernization, advanced training and incorporation of modern technology in the army, navy and air force is continuing.He also mentioned the underestimation of the capabilities of the forces during the past fascist era and said that the interim government has taken extensive initiatives to increase the capabilities of all forces. The activities of the BNC have also been expanded to increase the country's defense capabilities and the involvement of the youth in public welfare work.Professor Yunus said at the reception that the Bangladesh Armed Forces were formed during the Liberation War of 1971. On November 21, 1971, the army, navy and air force jointly fought against the Pakistani forces. The freedom fighters risked their lives to fight for independence and ensured the liberation of the country.He further said that during the Liberation War, the 'Bangladesh Forces' were formed in 11 sectors through the training of freedom fighters and guerrilla warfare. The final result of this joint operation was the victory of Bangladesh's independence on December 16. The contribution of the Bangladesh Armed Forces during the Liberation War will be written in golden letters in history.Professor Yunus mentioned that in the past 37 years, our peacekeepers have played a successful role in 63 missions in 43 countries of the United Nations. Currently, they are deployed in 10 countries, and Bangladesh is known as one of the largest sending countries of women peacekeepers in the world.He thanked the members of the armed forces and said that they should continue to be provided with the necessary training and equipment. Wishing happiness, peace and welfare of all members and their families, the Chief Advisor expressed the hope that everyone will work unitedly for the development and progress of the country.
