Indian Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal told a news briefing on Wednesday that the request for the extradition of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from Dhaka is being reviewed.This information was given in a report by the British news agency Reuters. It said that India has acknowledged receiving an extradition letter for former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who was sentenced to death by the International Crimes Tribunal.Jaiswal said that a new request has been received from Bangladesh for the extradition of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. This request was sent after the International Crimes Tribunal sentenced her to death.Sheikh Hasina has been in India since August 2024. She fled Bangladesh in July last year in the face of violent student-led protests.Bangladesh has sent two letters to the former Prime Minister, who is staying in an undisclosed location in the country, seeking her return. However, this is the first time that Delhi has officially acknowledged receiving the letter.Randhir Jaiswal said at the news briefing, "Yes, we have received a request. This request is being reviewed as part of the ongoing judicial and internal legal process.’’“We are committed to the welfare of the people of Bangladesh – especially peace, democracy, inclusion and stability – and will continue to engage constructively with all parties in this regard,” he said.Bangladesh sent a letter this month seeking the return of Sheikh Hasina after she was sentenced to death for the killing of student protesters in July last year.
