The death toll from a devastating fire in a residential building in Uttara, Dhaka, has risen to six, including a two-and-a-half-year-old child.The fire broke out on Friday morning (January 16) around 7:45 am on the second floor of a seven-storey residential building located on Road No. 18 in Sector 11 of Uttara. The blaze quickly spread, causing panic among residents.Among the deceased are Rodela (14), daughter of Md. Shahidul of Doriparshi village under Ishwarganj Police Station in Mymensingh, Md. Harich Uddin (52) and Md. Rahab (17), sons of late Hafiz Uddin from the same village. The victims also include Fazle Rabbi Rizvi (38) of Dighirpar area in Cumilla Sadar, his wife Afsana (37), and their two-and-a-half-year-old son Md. Rishan.According to the Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters, two firefighting units rushed to the scene around 8:00 am after receiving the fire alert. Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control by 8:25 am, and the fire was fully extinguished by 10:00 am.The Fire Service also confirmed that 13 people were rescued alive from the building and later taken to Kuwait Maitree Hospital for treatment.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and further details will be known following an investigation by the concerned authorities.
