Desk News || On Sunday, a four-member delegation of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami held a meeting with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.The delegation, led by Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman, included Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, Mia Golam Parwar, and Rafiqul Islam Khan. The meeting took place in the evening at the state guest house Jamuna.Among the advisers present were Planning Adviser Dr. Wahiduddin Mahmud; Adviser for Housing and Public Works, Industries, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, Adilur Rahman Khan; and Adviser for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources as well as Road, Bridge and Railways, Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan.Various election-related issues were discussed during the meeting. Jamaat-e-Islami leaders said that they will begin full-scale election campaigning from 22 January. They also informed that Jamaat-e-Islami has already started campaigning in favor of “Yes” in the referendum, and from 22 January both campaigns will run simultaneously.Jamaat-e-Islami leaders drew the Chief Adviser’s attention to several issues related to the election.The Chief Adviser said, “No matter what, we must hold a good election. Please inform us of any urgent information, complaints, or opinions related to the election. We will immediately bring them to the attention of the Election Commission. If any action is required from the government, we will take it.”He said that polling centers will be brought under CCTV surveillance very soon, adding that most centers will have CCTV cameras installed by January. At centers considered risky, officials on duty will be equipped with body cameras. All footage will be monitored from a control room and recorded so that immediate action can be taken in case of any untoward incident.Regarding government campaigning in favor of “Yes” in the referendum, the Chief Adviser said, “Some people are questioning whether government campaigning for a ‘Yes’ vote in the referendum is lawful. However, after discussions with all concerned, we are confident that there is no legal obstacle. The interim government, formed through a mass uprising, is responsible for standing in favor of reforms.”He further said, “This election and referendum must be successfully held. No matter what anyone says, the election will be held on 12 February. This will not be a flawed election. Ensuring a free, fair, and festive election environment is the responsibility of all of us, the government, the Election Commission, and political parties alike. We seek cooperation from all political parties in this regard.”The Chief Adviser also said that steps will be taken to establish effective mechanisms at the local level, involving representatives of all political parties and relevant stakeholders, to resolve any disputes that may arise during the election period.In addition, a hotline number will be launched for the election through which all types of complaints can be received. Regardless of victory or defeat, the Chief Adviser called on everyone to remain united to ensure a successful election and to work together for the country.
