Osman Gani , Upazila Correspondent, Chandina || The Assistant Commissioner (Land), Faisal Al Nur, has been summarily transferred following an incident where two journalists were handcuffed and sent to a police station in Chandina, Cumilla. On Thursday, by order of the President, the Ministry of Public Administration issued a "stand release" for the official, transferring him to Jaintiapur in Sylhet due to allegations of misconduct and harassment of journalists while they were performing their professional duties at the Upazila Land Office last Wednesday (April 1).The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon when Russell Sarkar, the Debidwar correspondent for the Daily Manab Zamin, and Abdul Alim, the Debidwar representative for the online news portal ‘Face the People,’ visited the Chandina Upazila Land Office for a hearing regarding a land mutation (namjari) case. According to the victimized journalists, after a long wait, the Assistant Commissioner became furious when they attempted to record a video of his behavior during a conversation. He immediately summoned the police, who handcuffed the journalists and took them to the police station.It is further alleged that after being taken to the station, the journalists were subjected to mental pressure, and the recorded videos and photos were forcibly deleted from their mobile phones. They were eventually released after a written undertaking (muchleka) was extorted from them. As news of this disgraceful incident spread, it sparked intense resentment among the journalist community. In view of the situation, the administration took swift action. In a notification signed by Md. Barman Hossain, Senior Assistant Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration, Faisal Al Nur was withdrawn from his current post in the public interest and directed to join his new place of posting.
