Md Mamun Uddin, Staff Reporter || In Hatia, Noakhali, allegations have been made against a local NCP leader named Md. Imran Uddin for various irregularities, including installing a fuel pump on the site of a warehouse of the State-owned Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC), cutting and selling trees in the warehouse yard, and selling various goods.Imran is the son of Abu Bakar Siddique of Gulakhali village in Ward No. 8 of Hatia Municipality. He is a member of the municipality NCP and is a councilor candidate from the same ward in the upcoming municipal elections.According to local and related sources, BADC has a large warehouse spread over about three acres of land in Chaumuhani Bazar of Hatia Upazila. At one time, the area was very busy due to the storage and distribution of urea fertilizer and agricultural inputs. However, over time, that activity has decreased a lot. The authorities have been leasing the warehouse to individuals at different times for a period of three years. In continuation of this, Md. Imran Uddin took the lease of the warehouse last year.It is alleged that after taking the lease, 25 to 30 trees on the warehouse site were cut and sold. Apart from this, it is also alleged that various iron and wood in the warehouse were sold and sand and soil from the land were cut and sold at a rate of about 2,200 taka per trolley.It is known that earlier the warehouse was on lease to Ali Ashraf Shaheen, assistant teacher of Chaumuhani High School. At that time, a businessman had a large amount of rods and gravel stored there. Locals claim that after Imran Uddin took the lease, stones worth about 2 million taka stored there were sold. Apart from this, it is alleged that 84 tons of rods were sold by breaking the lock of the warehouse in the dark of night. There is also discussion among the locals that some influential people have benefited from these incidents.It is also alleged that a part of the empty space of the warehouse was sold to a local person named Babul for 10,000 taka per month, violating the terms of the lease agreement. Rent has been paid for the installation of a fuel pump, which is illegal.In this regard, Upazila Executive Officer Russell Iqbal said that he did not give any permission for the installation of the pump. He recently inspected the pump and stopped its operations as it did not have the necessary documents. BADC officials have been spoken to regarding the land issue and they have said that they will take necessary action.Some local people alleged that Imran Uddin was involved in various controversial activities in the past. Currently, he is carrying out these activities using the influence of his political identity. The complainants also claim that many do not dare to speak out publicly due to fear.However, Md. Imran Uddin denied all the allegations and said, I have legally leased the warehouse. As a lessee, I have the right to use the space or rent it if necessary. The allegations of cutting trees and other things being made are completely false.He also said that I am involved in NCP politics and am a councilor candidate from ward number 8. These propagandas are being spread to politically humiliate me.Asked whether it is legal to rent out a leased government warehouse to another person or organization, Abdul Mannan, Assistant Administrative Officer of the Fertilizer and Seed Branch of Noakhali District BADC, said, "The lessee cannot change the warehouse infrastructure or rent out any part of it to anyone else in any way. We will investigate the matter on the spot and take necessary action."
