Today, June 11, marks that deeply melancholic day when journalist Golam Mostafa Bhai departed from our midst. Time flows according to its own rhythm, but the departure of certain individuals leaves a vacuum in local society and the pages of memory that cannot be easily filled. Golam Mostafa, a worthy son of Kasharikhola village in Chandina, was simultaneously a teacher, a media worker, a political organizer, and, above all, a dedicated social worker. The life and work of this multi-talented individual deeply remind us today of how working with honesty and dedication can establish a permanent place in the hearts of the people of a region.Looking at the trajectory of his life, it is evident that he always felt an urge to stay connected with people. At the beginning of his career, he chose the noble profession of teaching. The dream he harbored of spreading the light of knowledge in young minds and building an ideal generation was reflected in his behavior and psyche throughout his later life. Leaving teaching, he later held a responsible position in a well-known pesticide company. Even with the change of profession, his connection to the soil, the farmers, and the common people did not diminish in the slightest. Rather, he left a mark of his honesty and efficiency in his new workplace as well. However, the two brightest dimensions of Golam Mostafa Bhai's life were his journalism and his political philosophy. He was the Chandina Upazila correspondent for the country’s popular national daily, 'Dainik Bhorer Dak'. Those of us involved in this profession know very well just how challenging rural journalism is. Instead of chasing sycophancy or cheap popularity, he used his writings to portray the joys, sorrows, grievances, and local development of ordinary people from the dusty roads of Chandina. He never compromised on delivering objective news. His sharp pen on one hand spoke for the exploited and deprived, and on the other, drew the attention of the local administration to play a vital role in solving numerous problems. Every report he sent to Dainik Bhorer Dak was a true reflection of the people of Chandina.Alongside journalism, he was actively involved in mainstream politics. He served with great efficiency as the Office Secretary of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chandina Upazila branch. The position of Office Secretary in politics is highly crucial and demanding. His organizational skills in coordinating among party leaders and activists, maintaining organizational discipline, and making every program successful were exemplary. His acceptance even among people of different political ideologies was sky-high because he never used politics as a tool for vengeance; instead, he viewed it as a medium for human welfare. He was a unique example of clean and elegant politics.Yet, in a cruel irony of fate, when the entire world was fighting against an invisible enemy, he himself fell victim to it during the distressing times of the pandemic. The clutches of the global pandemic, Coronavirus, snatched away our dear Mostafa Bhai. The man who stood by others in their times of danger throughout his life, and who took up his pen to raise public awareness even during the COVID-19 crisis, ultimately had to concede defeat to that deadly disease. His untimely departure left the residents of Chandina stunned and grief-stricken.Today, on his death anniversary, every corner of the familiar paths of Kasharikhola village, the Chandina Press Club, and the political office seems to search for his memory. Golam Mostafa Bhai is no longer with us, but he has left behind a vast legacy of his ideals, honesty, and public service. His name will be remembered forever in the history of Chandina as an honest journalist, a dedicated political worker, and a gentle soul. We pray to the Almighty for the salvation of his departed soul. Mostafa Bhai, wherever you are, may you rest in peace. The path of objective journalism and selfless social service that you showed us will continue to guide us for a lifetime.
