A 'Charporamukhi Canal' re-excavation and tree plantation program has been inaugurated in Haimchar, Chandpur for agricultural development and environmental protection.On Saturday (May 13), MP from Chandpur-3 constituency Sheikh Farid Ahmed Manik inaugurated the excavation work from the house of Dewan Bari of Dakshin Charbhanga Dewan in the upazila to the house of Rahim Master.In his speech as the chief guest, he said, "Out of the 13 canals in Haimchar, 12 are under the Water Development Board and 1 is under the Disaster Management Department. All the canals will be dug by the end of the current monsoon season by next year."He further said that this initiative will directly benefit local farmers, which will contribute to the national economy. To protect the environment, large-scale tree plantation will be done on both sides of the canal and road renovation work will be done first using the excess soil of the canal. Praising the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, MP Manik called him a leader of the soil and people.The event, chaired by Haimchar Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Amit Roy, was addressed by Upazila BNP General Secretary Mazharul Islam Shafiq, Upazila Agriculture Officer Shakil Khandaker, and Relief and Disaster Management Officer Sohel Rana Pappu, among others.Chandpur District Council Administrator Advocate Salim Ullah Selim, Upazila BNP President Md. Amin Ullah Bepari, along with local leaders of district and upazila BNP and its affiliates, were present at the event.
