Somewhere, a vast expanse of water, somewhere else, millions of fish are playing in the water. When the golden light of the sun falls on this body of water in the late afternoon, a magical atmosphere is created. I was talking about the traditional Ghughara Beel of Chandina, Comilla, located on the border of Chandpur, Kachua, Comilla, Chandina, and Daudkandi. This once uncultivated, neglected wetland has today become not only the economic driving force of the region, but also a wonderful tourist center that provides food for the hearts of thousands of people. However, despite its huge potential, the beel has not yet been able to spread its wings as a full-fledged modern tourist center due to government indifference. Not long ago, Ghughara Beel meant a vast expanse of water. For years, only water and water flowed here. Local farmers could only raise one crop in the name of crops throughout the year. The rest of the year, this vast land lay idle, from which there was no opportunity to turn the wheel of people's fortune. But with the passage of time, people's thinking changed. A silent revolution began in the heart of this beel with the help of some brave and far-sighted fish farmers. They built one fish farm after another here by taking lease or rent from the landowners.Today, that Ghughara beel is one of the largest fish reserves in the country. Every year, fish worth crores of taka is produced from the farms of this beel, which is supplied to different parts of the country by meeting local demand. This silver revolution has not only created employment for the local unemployed youth, but is also playing a huge and glorious role in the overall economy of the country. The beel, which was once unproductive, is today keeping the economic flow of crores of taka active. However, the story of Ghughara Beel is not only one of economic success, it is now a playground of aesthetic beauty. Especially during the monsoon and autumn seasons, this beel seems to be adorned with a new look. The clear water all around and the peaceful environment of rural nature bring mental peace to people tired of urban machinery in an instant. Without any artificiality, this beel has become a favorite tourist destination for the common people. Every afternoon, thousands of people come here with their families, loved ones and love. Some ride boats and roam around the beel, while others stand on the banks and enjoy the beautiful view of the sunset.Seeing this overflowing crowd of visitors, some local entrepreneurs have created all the aesthetic spots on their own initiative. The platforms built on the water, good seating arrangements and small entertainment centers captivate the minds of the tourists. These spots created by private initiatives have increased the beauty of the beel many times over. But in contrast to this spontaneous love of the common people, the picture of government patronage is quite disappointing.High-ranking officials of the district and upazila levels of the government have visited this Ghughara Beel at different times. Seeing the immense potential of the beel, they have repeatedly assured to develop it as a modern tourist center. But unfortunately, those assurances have remained limited to paper till date, and have not been reflected in reality. Due to the lack of any modern government facilities, tourists coming from far and wide have to face various problems. Despite the lack of improved transportation system, lack of adequate lighting and lack of security, people flock here only for the attraction of nature. If Ghughara Beel can be planned and converted into a modern tourist center in a government-planned manner, then it can be one of the most attractive tourist spots in the country. If modern rides, improved communication system, restaurants and resorts are built, it is possible for the government to earn crores of taka in revenue from here every year. At the same time, with the combination of fisheries and tourism, Ghughara Beel can become one of the model economic zones of Bangladesh. How much more assurance will this beel see the light of day? This is the question that local residents and nature lovers are now asking. Only the government's vision can fulfill this latent potential of Ghughara Beel.
