The Prime Minister's Information Adviser Dr. Zahedur Rahman has said that the activities of the Awami League are currently banned under an executive order. The party will be tried at the tribunal for genocide and crimes against humanity, and it will be up to the court to decide, after the trial, whether the Awami League can continue to exist as a political party in the country. The Prime Minister's adviser made these remarks at a press conference organized by the Department of Films and Publications at the Secretariat on Tuesday, July 7.He said, "The Awami League itself has not been banned; rather, their activities have been banned. Let them wait a little. Our Home Minister has informed us, and the ICT [International Crimes Tribunal] has informed us, that the investigation is ongoing. We only need to wait until that time. If it is found through the trial that they are not being banned again, I say this is within the court's jurisdiction, and the judge will decide after hearing all partiesthen they will be able to resume their activities."
