The freshness of the gentle rain water has filled the surroundings with the unquenchable joy of a new life. To welcome the monsoon and decorate the beautiful nature with a new look, a tree planting festival is now underway in Chandina, Comilla, like the rest of the country. In all corners of Chandina, on both sides of the tarred roads or in the wet courtyards of rural houses, there is now only a celebration of new greenery. This beautiful scene of a new love for nature in this rainy season is captivating the minds of passers-by and local residents.A massive and well-planned tree plantation drive is underway in Chandina under the initiative of various government and private departments of the upazila and a group of enthusiastic youth volunteer organizations. Newly planted saplings of various species are adorning various important roads, ponds, canal banks, playgrounds and vacant lots of government and private educational institutions in the upazila. Fruit, forest and medicinal saplings of all types are gaining prominence in this massive green revolution. In particular, along with delicious fruit trees like mango, jackfruit, litchi, guava, amra and jamrul, there is also a noticeable demand for wood and medicinal saplings like mahogany, neem, arjun, teak and amla. Along with the local administration, various social and renowned organizations are distributing saplings free of cost among the common people, which has made the whole process even faster.However, this green arrangement is not limited to government or social institutional initiatives alone. Taking the arrival of monsoon as an opportunity, common people have also spontaneously joined this festival of life. Senior teachers, restless students, hard-working farmers, local businessmen or ordinary housewives, people of all classes have taken up the great vow of planting saplings on their own initiative. The fallow or uncultivated land next to the house, the rural method path, the pond bank or the roof tub of multi-storey buildings are adorned with dark green and fresh saplings. Local sapling selling nurseries are also very busy day and night. Every day from morning to evening, there is a bustling sale and purchase of various saplings in the markets and at the crossroads. Common people who come from far and wide are buying their preferred saplings at affordable prices and taking them to their beloved destinations with utmost compassion.The truth that trees are the most selfless and absolute friend of man is being realized anew by the people of Chandina today. From providing oxygen, the main driving force for the survival of mankind, to combating the harmful effects of climate change around the world, the role of trees is immense and unparalleled. There can be no greater protective shield than trees to keep nature clean, habitable and balanced by absorbing toxic carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, preventing soil erosion and protecting it from unwanted natural disasters. Taking this simple and great truth to heart, people from all walks of life in Chandina have come together to make nature beautiful and meaningful in a new light.The atmosphere of various educational institutions in the area is also quite lively and festive now. Young and old students are planting saplings in the courtyards with utmost care during class breaks and are promising to take proper care of them. Just as the elders want to leave a safe, beautiful and disease-free green world for the next generation, the younger youth are determined to bring back this lost form of nature. This collective and wonderful initiative of Chandina is not limited to just planting a few saplings, it has transformed into an unprecedented awakening of environmental awareness.Due to the heavy rains and abundant moisture in the soil, the saplings planted during this season grow very quickly and spread their roots firmly in the soil.
