Dhaka, August 7, 2026 (Friday): National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener and Chief Whip of the Opposition Md. Nahid Islam visited a still-image exhibition titled “July Is Not Over Yet”, organized by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami at the premises of the official residence of the Leader of the Opposition in Dhaka.Speaking to journalists after visiting the exhibition, Nahid Islam criticized the government over former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s press briefing in Delhi.“The Foreign Ministry has issued a press release over the fascist Hasina’s briefing in Delhi and is trying to receive praise for it. This is nothing but rhetoric in plain language, we call it empty talk,” he said.He added, “The press release makes big statements, but what diplomatic measures are you actually taking? They made the announcement openly, and the Indian government cooperated with them. The government should have summoned the Indian High Commissioner and strongly condemned the incident. It should also have made public what measures the government would take in the future and what kind of diplomatic action it would pursue in response to such incidents.”Accusing the government of showing tendencies toward authoritarianism, Nahid Islam said, “If structural reforms are not carried out, this government will also become authoritarian, and there are such tendencies within it. History has shown that they are a failed Awami League. At different times, they have tried to become like the Awami League, but they failed and faced resistance from the people. The same happened in 1996. If they try again, they will once again face resistance from the people, Insha’Allah.”NCP leaders, including its chief organizer for the northern region Sarjis Alam, spokesperson Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan, and chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary, were present during the visit.
