The funeral rites of former two-time Chandina Upazila Parishad Chairman and valiant Freedom Fighter Tapan Boxi have been completed at his family cremation ground following full state honors. On Saturday afternoon (August 22), a smartly turned-out police contingent presented a guard of honor at his residence in Harang village, Chandina. Prior to this, his body was draped in the national flag of Bangladesh.Chandina Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Ashraful Haq and Chandina Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Md. Mizanur Rahman were present during the tribute and final rites. The late Tapan Boxi served as the President of the Cumilla District unit of the Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad and as the Vice President of the Chandina Upazila Awami League.He passed away at the age of 72 on Thursday morning (August 20) around 7:15 AM while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Cumilla. He leaves behind his wife, one son, two daughters, and numerous admirers.Before the funeral rites, a memorial meeting was held highlighting his political and social contributions. Statements were delivered by Deputy Secretary Saiful Islam Bhuiyan, Chandina Upazila Freedom Fighter Command Council Convenor Freedom Fighter Mofiz Uddin Bhuiyan, Acting President of Cumilla District Puja Udjapan Parishad Freedom Fighter Nirmal Pal, Acting General Secretary Narayan Sarkar, former Municipal Mayor Shah Mohammad Alamgir Khan, former Commander Freedom Fighter Haji Abdul Malek, teacher leader Komol Boxi, Chandina Press Club President Ranabir Ghosh Kingkor, General Secretary Professor Masumur Rahman Masud, and the late chairman's son, Tonmoy Boxi Raju.Leaders of Puja Udjapan Parishads from various upazilas across the district, along with representatives from business and social organizations, paid their final respects by laying floral wreaths.
