After the fall of the Awami League government in the student-public uprising, the BNP is moving forward with various strategies. In order to prevent any infiltrators from entering the party in the emerging situation, the BNP warned the party leaders and activists about infiltrators on August 8.
Instructions were given from the ward to the national level that leaders and activists of other political parties or non-political persons should not be allowed to join any committee of the BNP and its affiliated organizations. But many are not following those instructions now. There are allegations that the field-level leaders of the ousted Awami League are changing their roles and joining the BNP in the changed situation. Some of the grassroots and central leaders are taking advantage and giving these infiltrators the opportunity to join the party.
According to BNP sources, despite taking various measures against more than 1,500 leaders for violating party directives and various irregularities, infiltration has not been stopped. Therefore, BNP is having to walk the path of implementing a ‘strict policy’ to protect the party’s discipline and image. However, since the fall of the Awami League government, the BNP central office does not have accurate statistics on how many people have infiltrated the BNP and who they joined the party with.
A senior BNP leader said, ‘People from Awami League are now trying to infiltrate by taking pictures with BNP leaders. We need to know the identities of those who want to join the party. We also need to see who is infiltrating them into the party. Grassroots workers generally do not want to give them space, big leaders give them opportunities. Many people also get posts and titles. Again, we are getting complaints that some are giving shelter to Awami League people and their relatives.’
Some cases of infiltration into BNP have been reported after investigating at the grassroots level. In Hatia Upazila of Noakhali, a local Awami League leader named Monir Uddin Orupe Monir Member recently greeted Noakhali District BNP Member Secretary Harunur Rashid Azad with flowers at the BNP party office. Some BNP leaders nearby are Hatia Upazila BNP Organizing Secretary Iqbal Uddin Rashed, Hatia Municipality BNP President (expelled) Kazi Rahim and many others. There have also been allegations that Awami League leaders are being rehabilitated in exchange for money.
In this regard, Hatia Upazila BNP Organizing Secretary Iqbal Uddin Rashed said that Monir Member has not joined the Awami League for 10 years, and he has been tortured a lot by former Hatia MP Mohammad Ali, the BNP Organizing Secretary claimed.
In this regard, expelled BNP leader Kazi Abdur Rahim said that he was never a member of the Awami League, Mohammad Ali has caused him a lot of trouble and filed a false case. Monir Member is in politics with former Hatia MP Engineer Mohammad Fazlul Azim, he is Azim Saheb’s man.
Monir Member, as Awami League leader Monir Uddin Orupe, said, I have never been to Awami League, I am a 2-time member, our family is BNP.
Hatia Upazila BNP President AKM Fazlul Haque Khokon said on this issue, I see the pictures and laugh strangely.
Noakhali District BNP Member Secretary Harunur Rashid Azad did not respond to calls on WhatsApp and offline to get his opinion on this issue.
Noakhali District BNP former General Secretary Advocate Abdur Rahman said on this issue, you are a journalist, you write that those who will arrange for the rehabilitation of Awami League people have no place in BNP, this is the order of BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman and I have the same order.
