Motorcycle showdown in Noakhali with slogans in the name of BNP leader

A motorcycle showdown was held from Kabirhat Upazila of Noakhali to Maijdi Bazar, the district town, in violation of party instructions. When a live broadcast of the showdown with slogans was shared on Facebook, he faced severe criticism from Trinamool leaders and activists.

The showdown took place before a rally organized by the Noakhali District BNP on Wednesday (February 19) afternoon demanding price control, improvement of law and order, and early parliamentary elections. The common people suffered due to traffic congestion on the roads.

Several youth leaders, who did not want to be named, said that BNP leader Abed was given the responsibility of organizational coordinator of BNP in Noakhali-5 (Kompaniganj-Kabirhat) constituency after August 5. On Wednesday, February 19, Noakhali District BNP organized a rally on the District Judge Court Road in the district town of Maijdi. Before the rally, on the instructions of BNP leader Abed, his followers on about fifty motorcycles held a motorcycle showdown. During this time, his followers and activists were mostly seen raising various slogans in his name. Earlier, BNP leader Abed was accused of holding a motorcycle showdown with his followers and activists in Companiganj and Kabirhat upazilas for three days, including October 9. Several leaders of Noakhali were given showdowns and expelled for ignoring the ban. Still, the motorcycle showdown culture of BNP leaders in Noakhali is not stopping.

According to party sources, the BNP high command has banned any program that causes suffering to the people. Putting up any kind of billboards and showdowns of leaders have been completely banned. On September 8, 2024, a directive signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi was delivered to the grassroots level of the party.

Expressing anger, some local BNP workers said, “How can a central leader do such a thing when a ban on motorcycle showdowns has been imposed from the highest level of the party? Today’s showdown is tarnishing the reputation of our party among the common people.”

BNP’s Deputy Rural Development Affairs Secretary Bazlul Karim Chowdhury Abed’s mobile phone was called several times to inquire about the complaint, but he did not receive any response.

BNP’s Chittagong Divisional Organizing Secretary Mahbuber Rahman Shamim said, “The ban on motorcycle showdowns issued by the party high command is still in force. I first learned about the motorcycle showdown of that BNP leader from a media worker. No one told me anything about it.”
