What Mirza Fakhrul said about the decision to ban Jamaat-e-Islami

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir raised the question why the government has decided to ban Jamaat in the current situation of the country.

He said, “Why did they not take the decision to ban Jamaat Islam until now?” Why are they making this decision today? They will have a lot of arguments about it, they will say a lot, it doesn’t matter to us.”

He said these things in response to a question from journalists at a press conference at Gulshan BNP Chairperson’s political office on Tuesday (July 30) afternoon.

He also said, “BNP believes in multi-party democracy. It is the responsibility of the people whose politics they will accept and whose politics they will not accept. This requires a free, fair, acceptable election.”

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, referring to the banning of the Communist Party during the Pakistan era, said, “Those who are dictators have taken such a decision, they have to take such a decision.”

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, “It is not our concern. It is a government concern.”

This press conference was organized on the situation created around the student quota reform movement. Mirza Fakhrul protested the attack on the students’ movement, protested the torture and demanded the release of the students. He referred to so many deaths in the conflict caused by the movement as “genocide”. At the same time, they think that the United Nations should be involved in the investigation of these incidents.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir demanded immediate withdrawal of curfew and withdrawal of army to barracks.
