Hezbollah’s major attack in Israel, state of emergency
Iran-backed Lebanon-based armed organization Hezbollah has carried out large-scale attacks in Israel. The group claimed on Monday morning that more than 320 rockets had been fired into Israel.
In a statement on Monday, the Iranian-backed Lebanese group said it had fired hundreds of Katyusha rockets at 11 military sites in northern Israel. The news was published by the BBC.
The group described the attack as the “first phase” of Hezbollah’s offensive against Israel. They said that the attack was carried out in response to the killing of Fuad Shukhar, the top commander of Hezbollah, on July 30.
Hezbollah said, “This attack is the initial stage of targeting Israeli military positions and structures. More details will be provided later.”
Meanwhile, in response to the threat of this attack, the Israeli military has already launched attacks on various targets in Lebanon. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced the attack early Sunday morning.
On the other hand, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called a meeting of the Security Cabinet immediately after the attack. According to a statement from Netanyahu’s office, Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Galant declared a state of emergency for the next 48 hours.
Some instructions have been given by the army for the civilians during the emergency. These include limiting public gatherings and not moving in designated areas.
In addition, sirens were sounded to warn residents in northern Israel and to beware of airstrikes.
However, it was not immediately known how much damage or casualties occurred in the counter-attacks by Hezbollah and Israel.
