Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mukdho, a student of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP), died last (Thursday, July 18) while agitating for quota reforms in government jobs. His brother Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdho shared a 38-second video of the deceased Mochadar on Facebook. It can be seen that even in the last procession before his death, he was handing over water from the water case to the fascinated protestors. There he can be heard repeatedly saying, ‘This water will require water’. At that time, the identity card of the university was hanging on the chest.
Snigdha wrote on Facebook, ‘My brother was shot dead in shock. The bullet left a small hole in his forehead and a large hole below his right ear. Even before he was killed, Mochad was supporting the movement by giving biscuits and water. He was always against politics but was in favor of human rights. He led various social organizations during his university life.
“Even when he was shot in the head, Mocha was holding the water case in his hand in the middle of the road divider at Azampur in Uttara. His friend Ashiq rushed him to the nearest hospital, where many policemen were present. My brother was never against the police, he said they were just following orders. But they should follow their personal ethics and not follow any unethical orders.’
Naimur Rahman Ashiq said in a post on Facebook describing the incident of being shot dead, “At one point we sat on the road divider facing Ishti Kutum for a little rest. First, Zakir, then impressed, and finally me. Until then, the police have not shot anyone! Only tear shells, sprinters and rubber bullets were limited! Suddenly everyone came running from the direction of Amir Complex and Rajuk Commercial! After 2/3 seconds, I put my hand on the leg of the charmer and said, let’s run. My friend told me to go for the last time. Zakir got up and ran first then I also got up and ran after 3 to 4 steps I see Zakir running in front of me but not impressed by my side! Looking back, I saw my friend falling to the ground from that sitting position, looking at me with wide eyes, the remaining biscuits and polythene of the water bottle in his hand, a clear bullet mark on his forehead.
“I shouted, ‘Zakir is impressed by Guli Khaise’.” I looked at the front and saw many policemen coming here with weapons! How do you know the noise went to Laiga! The head is not working! The body will become dull! I once thought that I would be shot even before going to the charmer! However, I ran to the charmer and tried to pick him up. Ashiq writes, ‘Everything seemed to me in slow motion! After a while, I saw with blurry eyes that the doctor was saying to me, “What’s wrong with you?” I said, “My brother!” Said where do you feel? Drink water, sleep in bed! I said nothing happened! What happened to him, Baicha? He told me I can’t find a pulse, you call home a little relaxed! I still can’t understand anything clearly!
