Former Justice Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik arrested while fleeing to India
Former Justice Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik was arrested while fleeing to India. He was arrested on Friday (August 23) night. He was arrested while trying to cross into India at Jokiganj border.
BGB Public Relations Officer Shariful Islam confirmed the matter. He said that the former judge AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik was arrested a while back from Jokiganj border in Sylhet. He was trying to escape to India.
Besides, a case has been filed against former Justice Manik in Noakhali court for making offensive comments about BNP founder and former President Ziaur Rahman.
On Monday (August 19) afternoon, Nationalist Farmers Party Central Committee Organizing Secretary Rabiul Hasan Palash filed a case in Noakhali Senior Judicial Magistrate No. 1 Amli Court.
According to the source of the case, former judge Manik made offensive comments about Ziaur Rahman. He said, “Ziaur Rahman was not a freedom fighter, he was a spy of Pakistan”. Manik’s statement aimed at falsely and smearing Ziaur Rahman’s personal and political identity, which has spread in print, electronic and social media.
The honor of Ziaur Rahman and his family has been damaged due to such comments. Rabiul Hasan Palash, the plaintiff in the case, told the media that Ziaur Rahman’s personal and political identity has been falsified in former Justice Manik’s statement.
