A party leader cannot serve as Prime Minister, the tenure will not exceed two terms

In order to be neutral and free from conflict of interest, the same person cannot be the Head of Government (Prime Minister), Party Leader and Leader of Parliament at the same time and one person cannot serve as Prime Minister for more than two terms.

 

Last Wednesday (August 28) at TIB’s Dhanmondi office, TIB presented such a proposal at a press conference titled ‘New Bangladesh: Establishing Democracy and Good Governance and Preventing Corruption’ by the Interim Government.

The Deputy Speaker shall be elected from among the members of the opposition; In the absence of the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker, the members of the opposition party included in the presidium should be given the opportunity to act as Speaker.

 

He also said that in order to ensure the accountability of the executive department, at least 50 percent of the parliamentary standing committees (Public Accounts; Law, Judiciary and Parliament; Finance; Commerce; Home Affairs; Power, Energy and Minerals; Ministry of Defence) should be chaired by members of the opposition party. must be selected.

 

Parliamentary Standing Committees should avoid conflict of interest in all activities. In the parliamentary system, the representation of diverse people such as the young generation, women, tribals and other marginalized people should be ensured while nominating candidates for parliamentarians. At least one-third of youth representatives must be nominated by political parties in elections.

The TIB demanded the introduction of a party-neutral electoral interim government system for the National Assembly elections to ensure free, fair, impartial and participatory elections.

 

Calling for ensuring peace and order, public security and administrative normality, the Executive Director of TIB said, it is necessary to ensure nationally and internationally acceptable accountability with the direct participation of the United Nations against all those responsible for the multidimensional human rights violations including unprecedented loss of life; It is very important to ensure due process of law so as not to question the judicial process.
