Half-Decomposed Body of Woman Found in Banana Grove in Chandpur
Police have recovered the half-decomposed body of an unidentified woman, estimated to be around 50 years old, from a secluded banana grove in the Kolakanda area of Matlab Uttar Upazila in Chandpur. Preliminary assessments suggest that the body had been lying there for at least four to five days.The body was recovered on Thursday (June 25) from a banana grove in Hanirpar village of Kolakanda.According to police sources, local residents noticed a foul odor coming from the grove in the morning. Upon investigating, they discovered the body and immediately informed Matlab Uttar Police Station. Police later arrived at the scene and recovered the body.Several local residents said that such an incident had never occurred in the area before. News of the recovery quickly spread, drawing a large crowd of curious onlookers. However, no one was able to identify the deceased woman.Considering the seriousness of the case, Assistant Superintendent of Police (Matlab Circle) Jabir Husnain Sani and a special team from the Chandpur unit of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) visited the scene and launched an investigation. PBI members examined the recovery site, surrounding environment, and collected potential evidence in an effort to uncover the mystery. Sources involved in the investigation said that authorities are examining whether the death was natural or the result of a homicide.Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Matlab Uttar Police Station, Mohammad Kamrul Hasan, said that police responded promptly after receiving the information and recovered the body. He stated that the deceased woman appeared to be approximately 50 years old. Due to the body's condition, several parts had decomposed, while some areas had been damaged by insects and animals."We are working to identify the deceased and determine the exact cause of death," he said.The OC further added that an inquest report has been prepared and the body has been sent to the morgue for an autopsy. The cause of death will become clearer once the post-mortem report is received."We are treating the matter with utmost importance. Nearby police stations and relevant units have been notified to help identify the deceased. If any missing person reports match the victim's description, it may be possible to confirm her identity quickly. Necessary legal procedures are currently underway," he added.
