Following the announcement of Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir as the BNP’s presidential candidate, changes are being made in several key ministries.Under the new arrangement, Salahuddin Ahmed is being relieved of his responsibilities as Home Minister and will be assigned to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives. Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anny, meanwhile, is set to take charge of the Home Ministry.The decision was reportedly taken at a meeting of the BNP Standing Committee held on Thursday (August 13), chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.Ministry sources confirmed the development, saying a gazette notification on the reshuffle could be issued Thursday evening.Salahuddin Ahmed, a politician and lawyer, has been serving as Home Minister since February 2026. He is a member of parliament from the Cox’s Bazar-1 constituency. Earlier, he served as State Minister for Communications and was a member of parliament from 1996 to 2006.Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anny, meanwhile, is the lawmaker from Lakshmipur-3. He is currently serving as the Minister for Water Resources.
