Young Man Killed, 6 Injured Including Child in Separate Road Accidents in Cumilla's Chandina
A young man named Md. Mohiuddin Roni (22) was killed in two consecutive road accidents in the Tirchar and Korchap areas of the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Chandina, Cumilla. At least six others, including a child, were severely injured in a collision involving a passenger bus and a covered van in the same incident.The tragic accidents took place on Thursday (August 13) afternoon on both the Dhaka-bound and Chattogram-bound lanes of the highway. The deceased, Mohiuddin Roni, was the son of Abul Kashem from Korchap village in Chandina Upazila.According to the police and eyewitnesses, at around 12:30 PM, a three-wheeled battery-run van loaded with bamboo was attempting to make a U-turn on the highway in the Tirchar area. At that moment, a speeding covered van belonging to 'Muhaimin Cargo Service' coming from behind swerved to avoid the van, lost control, and overturned on the highway.Following the rollover of the covered van, traffic slowed down on the Dhaka-bound lane. Just two minutes later, a passenger bus named 'Tisa Plus' coming from behind slammed hard into the rear of a truck ahead. As a result, the front portion of the Tisa bus was completely mangled, leaving at least six passengers inside, including a child, severely injured.Immediately after the accident, local residents rushed to the scene, rescued the injured, and admitted them to a private hospital in Elliotganj. As the condition of one of the injured was critical, preparations were underway to transfer them to Dhaka for advanced medical treatment. However, the identities of the injured could not be immediately confirmed.Meanwhile, earlier around 11:00 AM, Md. Mohiuddin Roni was standing beside the road in the Korchap area when an uncontrolled mini pickup van rammed into him violently before plunging into a roadside ditch. Roni died on the spot due to the severity of the impact.These consecutive accidents temporarily disrupted traffic on the Dhaka-bound lane, causing a long traffic jam. Upon receiving the news, the Elliotganj Highway Police quickly arrived at the spot, removed the wrecked vehicles from the road, and restored normal traffic movement.Confirming the incident, Sub-Inspector (SI) Md. Faruq of Elliotganj Highway Police Station stated that the youth named Roni died on the spot after being hit by the reckless pickup van, while several others were injured in the bus collision in the Tirchar area. The police arrived promptly, cleared the road to restore normal traffic flow, and legal action is currently being taken regarding the matter.
