Shoriful Islam Makes History with First 5-Wicket Haul in BPL

Left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam produced a remarkable bowling performance in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) as he claimed his first-ever five-wicket haul in T20 cricket. Playing for Chattogram Royals in the 25th match of the 12th edition, Shoriful took 5 wickets for just 9 runs in 3.5 overs against Noakhali Express. This outstanding spell marked the first five-wicket haul of Shoriful’s T20 career and also saw him register a new milestone in BPL history. The match was held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. After losing the toss, Noakhali Express were sent in to bat first but failed to cope with Shoriful’s lethal pace bowling. They were bowled out for 126 runs in 18.5 overs.Shoriful’s spell included a double-maiden over in his third over. In his final over, he bowled only five deliveries, conceding just one run while picking up two wickets. Overall, he finished with figures of 5 for 9 in 3.5 overs. With this performance, Shoriful set a new record for the lowest runs conceded by a Bangladeshi pacer while taking five wickets in a BPL match. The previous record was held by Abu Hider Rony, who took 5 wickets for 12 runs for Rangpur Riders against Fortune Barishal in 2014.However, the overall BPL record for the cheapest five-wicket haul combining both local and overseas players, still belongs to Pakistan’s Mohammad Sami. In the inaugural BPL season in 2012, Sami claimed 5 wickets for just 6 runs in 3.2 overs for Duronto Rajshahi against Dhaka Gladiators. Shoriful’s five-wicket haul against Noakhali Express also propelled him to the top of the wicket-taking chart in the ongoing BPL season. After 8 matches, he leads the standings with 18 wickets to his name.
