MoU Signed Between Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University and China’s First Institute of Oceanography

Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU), Bangladesh, and the First Institute of Oceanography (FIO), Ministry of Natural Resources, China, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).


The agreement was signed on Monday (29 September 2025) at the administrative building of FIO in Qingdao, China. On behalf of JKKNIU, the MoU was signed by Professor Dr. Md. Mizanur Rahman, Acting Registrar of the university, while Professor Dr. Li Li, Director of FIO, signed on behalf of the institute. The MoU was further countersigned by Professor Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam, Honorable Vice-Chancellor of JKKNIU, and Professor Dr. Tigang Li, Director General of FIO.


The four-member JKKNIU delegation was led by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam. During the event, institutional presentations were delivered by Professor Dr. Zainul Abedin Siddiqui, Professor Dr. Md. Mizanur Rahman, and Professor Dr. Li Li. In addition, Professor Dr. Ashraf Ali Siddiqui from the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, JKKNIU, and Dr. Xin Shan from FIO’s Marine Geology Lab highlighted future joint research prospects on Bangladesh’s coastal areas and the Bay of Bengal.


The ceremony was also attended by FIO faculty and researchers, including Professor Dr. Yanguang Liu, Professor Dr. Shefa Shi, Professor Dr. Shiliyi Zhang, Dr. Lin Zhou, Dr. Shiju Wang, Dr. Xin Sha, among others.


Following the signing, the JKKNIU copy of the agreement was received by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam, while the FIO copy was received by Director General Professor Dr. Tigang Li. Both institutions also exchanged mementos as a gesture of goodwill.


Later, the JKKNIU delegation was given a tour of the FIO campus and the ‘China Ocean Sample Repository’ by Director General Professor Dr. Tigang Li, who also presented detailed information on the institute’s research outcomes.


This MoU marks a new milestone in academic and scientific collaboration between the two institutions, paving the way for knowledge exchange, joint research, research grants, fellowships, visiting scholar programs, and other academic opportunities.
