The man who once touched millions of hearts by quietly shedding tears at his childhood friend’s funeral is no more. Sudhir Chandra Das, fondly known as Sudhir Babu, passed away on Tuesday (26 August) at his home in Chapaichou village, Gunabati Union of Chauddagram upazila in Cumilla. He was 74 and had been battling liver cancer.

Sudhir Babu leaves behind two sons, five daughters, and countless admirers. His cremation was held the same night in his ancestral village.

His son, Arjun Chandra Das, recalled:

“My father and Amir Hossain uncle were inseparable since childhood. From playing games to running businesses in Gunabati Bazar, they did everything together. Even in their busy lives, they never missed a day without meeting each other. After uncle’s death, father was never the same.”

In September 2021, a photograph of Sudhir Babu went viral on social media. He was seen sitting silently on a tree log, wiping away tears during the funeral prayer of his lifelong friend, businessman Amir Hossain Soudagar. The picture moved millions, with people writing: “True friendship knows no religion.”

Locals say the bond between the two friends was pure and unbreakable. Until their last days, they remained each other’s greatest companions proving that real friendship transcends all barriers.
