A tragic road accident claimed the life of a college student in Chandpur Sadar upazila on Wednesday (January 7) afternoon. The incident occurred in the Ghosherhat area of the upazila when a passenger bus ran over Rahila Akter Shanta (18) while she was crossing the road.The deceased, Rahila Akter Shanta, was the daughter of Shamsul Huda of Baro Shahtali area under Chandpur Sadar upazila. She was a 12th-grade science student at Jilani Chishti College.According to local sources, the accident took place on the Chandpur–Cumilla road when a bus belonging to AIDI Paribahan hit her as she attempted to cross the road. She sustained critical injuries and was rescued by locals. Later, doctors declared her dead.At the time, locals alleged that buses of AIDI Paribahan frequently operate recklessly on the Chandpur–Cumilla road. They claimed that excessive speed has long increased the risk of accidents on this route.Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chandpur Sadar Model Police Station Md. Foyez Ahmed said that legal action in connection with the incident is currently underway. The incident has cast a pall of grief over the area. The untimely death of the young student has left her family and relatives in deep mourning.
