A woman named Asma Begum (55) was killed after being hit by a passenger bus on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Chandina, Cumilla. The accident occurred on Tuesday morning, approximately at 8:45 AM, under the Kutumbapur foot overbridge.
The deceased, Asma Begum, was the wife of the late Keramat Ali, a resident of Gatigara village in Chandina Upazila.
According to the police, a Dhaka-bound bus of ‘Sara Express’ (Registration No: Dhaka Metro-B-12-5336) from Noakhali was being driven at a reckless speed when it ran over Asma Begum while she was standing by the roadside. She was critically injured in the impact.
Upon receiving the news, Eliotganj Highway Police arrived at the scene, rescued her in a critical condition, and took her to the Chandina Upazila Health Complex, where the attending physician declared her dead.
Regarding the incident, Md. Ruhul Amin, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Eliotganj Highway Police Station, stated that the bus driver fled the scene immediately after the accident. However, the police have seized the bus and taken it into custody. He also confirmed that traffic on the highway remains normal and that further legal proceedings are underway.
