There is no information about any sabotage at the upcoming Amar Ekushey Book Fair. There will also be no opportunity to create any kind of disorder by forming mobs. Strict security will be ensured throughout the fair area, said Additional Commissioner Md. Sarwar of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
He made these remarks today (Wednesday) during a press briefing on the security plan for the “Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2026,” held at the fair premises in Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital.
The Additional Commissioner of DMP also stated that if any provocative book is found at this year’s fair, action will be taken against it.
He further said that there will be a three-tier security system at the fair. Members of intelligence agencies will also remain deployed 24 hours a day to ensure security. In addition to CCTV cameras, archways will be installed at entry and exit points of the fair held at the Bangla Academy premises and Suhrawardy Udyan.
Members of law enforcement agencies will work to keep traffic normal. Adequate police personnel, both in plain clothes and uniform, will be deployed inside and outside the fair.
Md. Sarwar added that during the fair, traffic diversions will be implemented in areas such as Mazar Road, Hakim Chattar, Doel Chattar, and TSC to reduce congestion. Additionally, sharp weapons and explosive materials will not be allowed inside the fair.
