Shabana, one of the most iconic figures in the history of Dhaka cinema, has returned to her homeland after a long gap of five years. The legendary actress is currently residing at her Baridhara DOHS residence in Dhaka, which often remained vacant during her absence.
She last visited Bangladesh in January 2020. At that time, Shabana expressed her desire to take part in new projects if the right opportunity came along. Her husband, former Member of Parliament Wahid Sadik, also mentioned that she might consider returning to film production under favorable circumstances. However, that plan did not materialize, and the couple eventually returned to the United States.Prior to that, Shabana’s last visit was in 2017, making this her first return to the country in half a decade.
Shabana began her journey in cinema as a child artist in the 1960s with the film Notun Sur. She made her debut as a leading actress in Chokori, starring opposite actor Nadeem. Over the years, she rose to become one of the most celebrated actresses in Bangladeshi cinema.
Despite being at the peak of her popularity, Shabana suddenly moved to the United States, where she has been living for more than 25 years with her husband, children, and grandchildren in New Jersey. Although she visits Bangladesh occasionally, she usually prefers to stay out of the spotlight. Her return after such a long hiatus has once again sparked curiosity and excitement among film enthusiasts. Whether this visit marks the beginning of her involvement in cinema again, however, still remains uncertain.
