Information Minister Zahid Uddin Swapan has stated that the maximum freedom of the mass media will be ensured in order to guarantee the free flow of information to the public.
He made this statement on Friday (27 February) morning while responding to questions from journalists after a meeting at the Barishal Circuit House.
The Information Minister said that they want to bring the overall management of the mass media under a modern management system.
Zahid Uddin Swapan said that when the Ministry of Information was established, technology-based media did not exist. However, with the rapid expansion of technology-based media today, the necessary adjustments to keep pace with this development have not yet been fully made.
He further said, “I have assumed office. After consulting with all stakeholders regarding government policymaking matters, I will gradually ensure the free flow of information to the public.”
Earlier, he distributed cheques from the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) among victims of road accidents. On that occasion, 61 victims were given cheques totaling 21.7 million taka (Tk 2 crore 17 lakh).
