Air pollution is increasing day by day in many cities around the world for various reasons. For a long time, the megacity Dhaka has been suffering from severe air pollution. According to data from the international air quality technology company IQAir on Tuesday (March 10) morning, Dhaka ranked first on the list of the world’s most polluted cities with a score of 241. This air quality score is considered “very unhealthy.”
Meanwhile, at the same time, the city of Delhi in India ranked second on the list with a score of 218. In addition, Lahore in Pakistan ranked third with a score of 215, while Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, ranked fourth with a score of 192. The city of Yangon in Myanmar ranked fifth with a score of 171.
An AQI (Air Quality Index) score from 0 to 50 is considered good. A score between 51 and 100 is regarded as moderate, and a score from 101 to 150 is considered unhealthy for sensitive groups. When the score ranges from 151 to 200, the air is categorized as “unhealthy.”
When the AQI score is between 201 and 300, it is described as “very unhealthy.” In such conditions, children, the elderly, and sick individuals are advised to stay indoors, while others are encouraged to limit outdoor activities. Furthermore, an AQI score between 301 and 400 is considered “hazardous,” posing serious health risks for city residents.
