Water Resources Minister and Joint Secretary General of the BNP, Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, said, “We have not assumed power; rather, we have taken on a state responsibility. This is not our power-it is a national duty. From a moral standpoint, I am committed and pledged to fulfilling this responsibility for the people of the country.”
He made these remarks on Tuesday night (March 10) while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion meeting with members of the Hindu community, held at a restaurant in Lakshmipur district town.
The meeting took place at Sonar Bangla Chinese Restaurant, where Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie praised the current government's administrative reforms and the work of the Prime Minister.
The Member of Parliament from Lakshmipur-3 (Sadar) constituency said, “This Prime Minister is not like previous prime ministers, and his words and actions have already proven that. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman goes to his office at 9 a.m. In the past, we rarely saw such a picture. As a result, the nation is benefiting; especially government employees have become more cautious and attentive.”
Referring to the change in VIP culture, the minister added, “Previously, we used to see convoys of 15–20 vehicles. In the last month, has anyone in Dhaka city seen such a convoy? This is an example of a people’s Prime Minister and a patriotic leader. Even before a month has passed since taking the oath, he has proven that he is capable of running the country properly. For the more than 200 million people of this country—regardless of religion, caste, or ethnicity—Tarique Rahman has set an example by awakening the love and affection we all share for our nation.”
Regarding the Family Card, the Water Resources Minister said there will be no opportunity for favoritism toward any particular group. The card will be for people of all religions and will be allocated directly in the name of the housewife of each family. It will not be issued in the name of any male member, and gradually it will be made available to everyone.
The meeting was chaired by Shankar Majumder, president of the District Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Unity Council, and moderated by Shimul Saha, president of the central committee of the Youth Unity Council. Among others who spoke at the event were Sahabuddin Sabu, member secretary of the district BNP; Hasibur Rahman, joint convener; Advocate Milon Mondol, general secretary of the District Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Unity Council; Swapan Chandra Nath, president of the District Puja Celebration Council; Ratnadeep Pal, convener of the District Hindu-Christian Welfare Front; Manik Saha, member secretary; and Raj Bijoy Chakraborty, president of the District Youth Unity Council.
