The tourism city of Cumilla is buzzing with festive energy during the extended Eid-ul-Fitr holidays. To share the joy of Eid and escape the monotony of urban life, visitors are flocking to more than fifty historical and entertainment centers across the district. With a unique blend of hills, archaeological heritage, and modern theme parks, Cumilla’s tourist spots have turned into a sea of people this Eid. Every public and private entertainment center is currently packed to capacity.
Crowds began streaming into the entertainment hubs of Kotbari, Lalmai, and Mainamati starting from the afternoon of Eid day. For families visiting with children, Magic Paradise and Blue Water Park have become the primary attractions. People of all ages are enjoying the diverse rides, including roller coasters, dinosaur parks, and artificial waterfalls nestled against the hills. Nearby, nature lovers are spending quiet moments amidst the serene landscape of 'Nilachal Hill' and 'Bonkutir' within the Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development (BARD) campus.
Drawn by history, a large number of visitors are gathering at the 8th-century archaeological site Shalban Vihara and the Mainamati Museum. Tourists are deeply fascinated by the ancient red-brick architecture of the Buddhist Vihara and the historical significance of Rupban Mura and Itakhola Mura. Many are also paying their respects at the Mainamati War Cemetery, a site steeped in memories of World War II. Additionally, culturally-minded tourists are visiting the 1,300-year-old Chandi Temple and the vast Dutia Dighi located atop the southern peaks of Lalmai Hills.
In the heart of the city, the banks of the 550-year-old Dharmasagar Dighi in Badurtala are witnessing an overwhelming surge of visitors. Boat trips on the clear waters and the presence of people at the adjacent City Park and Rani’s Kutir were particularly noteworthy. Tourists from various parts of the country are also visiting the ancestral home of Sachin Dev Burman, the residence of language hero Dhirendranath Datta, and the sites associated with National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam in Daulatpur, Muradnagar. Art enthusiasts are not missing the chance to visit the Bijoypur pottery area, where many were seen busy purchasing traditional terracotta and clay utensils.
Due to the massive influx of tourists, traffic pressure has increased slightly on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway near Mainamati and Kotbari, but the situation remains under control thanks to administrative efforts. Stringent security measures have been implemented by the District Police and Tourist Police. In addition to plainclothes surveillance, extra police personnel have been deployed at key points.
Cumilla Superintendent of Police (SP) Md. Anisuzzaman stated that maximum precautions are being taken to ensure the safety of visitors. He advised people to call the emergency service 999 for any assistance. Special monitoring is also being maintained at hotels and restaurants. Altogether, the combination of Cumilla's natural and archaeological treasures has added a new dimension to this year's Eid celebrations.
