Chandina,CUMILLA.

In a shocking turn of events in Chandina, Cumilla, a man named Moynal Hossain has been arrested for the murder of his own granddaughter while allegedly attempting to extort money by exploiting his daughter’s death. Since the mysterious death of his daughter, housewife Sabina Akhtar, on December 7 last year, Moynal had been facing allegations of reckless extortion by threatening local residents with murder charges.

A new tragedy unfolded on Saturday, March 21, during the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays in Hoshenpur village. According to local sources, Moynal Hossain, accompanied by his associates, stormed the house of Hasan, the brother-in-law of the deceased Sabina, demanding a large sum of money. When Hasan refused to pay, they began assaulting him. During the altercation, Hasan’s mother and his 21-year-old disabled niece, Morium, intervened to protect him, only to be attacked themselves. Morium died on the spot due to the physical assault.

Following a case filed by Morium’s family regarding the killing, police arrested Moynal Hossain as the prime suspect. Atiqur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chandina Police Station, stated that victims had previously complained about Moynal extorting nearly 900,000 BDT by threatening to implicate them in his daughter Sabina’s murder case. General Diaries (GD) had even been filed at the police station regarding these incidents. The OC confirmed that Moynal was detained after the extortion attempt on Eid day resulted in another death, and the matter is being investigated with high priority
