A special drive by the Chandina police in Cumilla has led to the arrest of seven individuals, including a fugitive drug dealer sentenced to five years of imprisonment. Chandina police conducted operations in various areas of the upazila over the last 24 hours as of Monday (March 30, 2026).
Among the arrestees, the most notable is Md. Abul Kashem, son of the late Kanu Mia from Naotala village. He had been a fugitive for a long time after being sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment and fined 5,000 BDT in a drug case. Additionally, there were two more pending warrants against him in other drug cases. The police also managed to arrest Md. Enamul Haque from Chaikut village, a fugitive under a CR warrant, and Md. Jalal from Suhilpur village, the primary accused in a regular case.
Furthermore, four others were sentenced to various terms for drug possession and consumption during the drive. Atiqur Rahman of Dakshin Chandina was sentenced to three days in prison and fined 50,000 BDT after being caught with marijuana and yaba. Joni from Rarirchar and Shahjalal from Chaikot were each sentenced to six months of imprisonment along with fines for similar offenses. Additionally, Md. Alamgir from Chapainawabganj Sadar was sentenced to one day in prison and fined 10,000 BDT. All the arrested accused have been produced before the court following due legal procedures.
