Mother of Three Goes Missing with 6 Lakh Taka and Gold Jewelry in Chandina; Complaint Filed
Chandina, Cumilla

A sensational incident has been reported in Chandina Upazila of Comilla, where a housewife allegedly went missing from the residence of her Saudi expatriate husband, taking 6 lakh BDT in cash and 5 Bhori of gold jewelry. In connection with this incident, the victim's elder brother, Nazrul Islam, has filed a written complaint at the Chandina Police Station.

According to the complaint, Sharmin Akhtar (29), daughter of Kalu Mia from Kongai village, was married into the family of Saudi expatriate Mahidul Islam of Nalpunni village under Bataghashi Union about 17 years ago. The couple has three children. The family claims that since the marriage, there were allegations against Sharmin regarding inappropriate behavior and an extra-marital affair with a local youth named Mehedi Hasan. Although Mehedi Hasan, son of Dadwon Mia of Nalpunni village, is currently staying abroad, the complaint mentions that he maintained constant contact with Sharmin.

Regarding the details of the incident, it is reported that on March 12, 2026, at approximately 7:00 AM, Sharmin Akhtar systematically left the house with 6 lakh BDT in cash and about 5 Bhori of gold jewelry (including necklaces, earrings, chains, and rings), totaling assets worth 10 lakh BDT. It is learned that the cash had been kept in the house for the construction work of Mahidul Islam’s new building. Family members later found the house in disarray and confirmed the disappearance after failing to find Sharmin and her children.

Locals claim that a man named Aman Ullah from Ward No. 8 of Bataghashi Union directly assisted Sharmin Akhtar in fleeing and misappropriating the assets. After searching various potential locations without success, Nazrul Islam filed the written complaint with the police upon receiving permission from his expatriate brother. The complaint further states that the accused are currently threatening the victim's family in various ways, leaving them feeling insecure.

Chandina Police Station stated that the complaint has been received with importance, and necessary legal action will be taken following a thorough investigation. Meanwhile, local residents have demanded exemplary punishment for those involved and those who assisted in this scandalous incident.
