JACSU: Allegations of voting using ballots printed by Jamaat company, Chhatra Dal fears rigging

JACSU: Allegations of voting using ballots printed by Jamaat company, Chhatra Dal fears rigging

The Jahangirnagar University Central Student Union (JCU) elections are being held using ballots taken by Jamaat-e-Islami, and the candidates of the Chhatra Dal-backed panel have alleged rigging.

They made this allegation at an emergency press conference at Maulana Bhashani Hall on Thursday (September 11) at 12:30 pm.

At the press conference, Sheikh Sadi Hasan, the VP candidate of the Chhatra Dal-backed panel, alleged that the Election Commission supplied ballot papers and OMR machines to Jamaat-e-Islami from an unknown company without following the procurement process. When the issue of rigging in the vote counting was revealed in order to make the Chhatra Shibir-backed panel win, under pressure from teachers and students, the Election Commission immediately decided to count the votes manually instead of counting them on the OMR machine and issued a notification. But the elections are being held using ballot papers from the same company.

As a result, the VP candidate for the JCU elections feels that a blueprint is being drawn up for the Chhatra Shibir-backed candidates to win through rigging.

Sheikh Sadi Hasan also complained at the press conference that when we demanded to vote through ballot papers, the Election Commission did not accept our demand and decided to vote using the ballots of the Jamaat-e-Islami company.

Chhatra Dal expressed strong anger and condemnation for such 'biased behavior' of the Election Commission.

Sheikh Sadi Hasan also said that information is being heard that many leaders and activists of Jamaat-Shibir are staying around the campus.

He commented that ordinary students are panicking over this.

Voting for the Jaksur election began at 9 am on Thursday. It will continue until 5 pm.

A total of 11,897 students will exercise their right to vote in this election. 177 candidates are contesting against 25 posts of the central parliament. There are a total of eight panels supported by the Left, Shibir, Chhatra Dal and independents.
