Eid Shopping in Full Swing at Algi Bazar; Haimchar Residents Busy with Purchases

Eid shopping has gained momentum at Algi Bazar, the commercial hub of Haimchar Upazila, ahead of the holy Eid al-Fitr. From morning until night, the market remains crowded with buyers and sellers. Men, women, and children are thronging the shops to purchase new clothes, shoes, and various cosmetic items, with the presence of female shoppers being particularly noticeable.A visit to the market shows that clothing stores are experiencing the highest number of customers. Some people are buying new outfits for themselves, while others are shopping for family members. Many shoppers said that although prices are somewhat higher, they are still making purchases to share the joy of Eid with their loved ones.A female shopper said she came to the market to buy items for Eid. She mentioned that she is still looking for something she likes and will purchase whatever appeals to her. She also said that shopping ahead of Eid makes her feel happy.A male shopper said he bought a pair of pants for himself and several clothing items for his family members. However, he noted that the market is quite crowded, making shopping somewhat difficult. He suggested that if the market authorities could manage the crowd better, it would make things easier for customers. Recalling his childhood Eid memories, he said that receiving new clothes, flutes, and balloons used to bring him immense joy. Now, as an adult, he feels happiest when he can buy gifts for his siblings and family members.Meanwhile, sellers say that sales have increased compared to normal times as Eid approaches. Panjabis for men are currently in high demand. One shopkeeper said that sales are slightly better this year compared to last year. However, since quality products cost more, some customers feel the prices are a bit high.Besides clothing stores, a large crowd was also observed at shoe and cosmetics shops.Another shopkeeper said that sales are relatively higher during midday hours—from around 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.—and continue into the afternoon. However, customer turnout drops significantly in the evening. He also mentioned that among women’s clothing, Sarara and Gharara outfits are currently in high demand.As Eid draws closer, the hustle and bustle in the market continue to grow, with both buyers and sellers passing busy days with last-minute shopping.
