As part of preparations ahead of the upcoming national election, 56 election observers from the European Union (EU) are travelling to different districts across the country today (Saturday) to assess the overall election environment.The Deputy Chief of the EU Election Observation Mission, Inta Lase, said the observers will closely monitor whether the current law and order situation has any impact on the electoral process.She shared the information during a media briefing held on Saturday morning (January 17) at a five-star hotel in the capital. Speaking to journalists, Inta Lase noted that the observation mission will expand as election day approaches. An additional 90 short-term observers will join the mission in the coming days.According to her, nearly 200 EU observers will be deployed across the country on election day. As part of the initial phase, the 56 observers will be spread across all 64 districts to observe election-related administrative activities. The observation team will also hold meetings with election authorities, candidates, political parties, civil society representatives, and domestic citizen observer groups. Their monitoring activities will cover both urban and rural areas, she added.
