Warehouse inspector Jannatul Naeem dies while undergoing treatment

Khandaker Jannatul Naeem (37), a warehouse inspector of the Fire Service and Civil Defense, has died while undergoing treatment after suffering burns in a massive fire at a chemical factory in Tongi, Gazipur (Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun).

He breathed his last at 10 am on Saturday (September 27) while undergoing treatment at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in the capital.

He was burned while extinguishing a fire at a chemical factory in Sahara Market, Tongi on September 22. 42 percent of his body was burned. This information was given in a press release sent by the media cell of the Fire Service headquarters.

The press release said that four members of the Fire Service and Civil Defense were injured in the incident, of whom three have already died.

Firefighter Shamim Ahmed and firefighter Nurul Huda died while undergoing treatment on September 23 and September 24, respectively. The last person to sacrifice his life for the country was Warehouse Inspector Jannatul Naeem.

Khandaker Jannatul Naeem was born on August 24, 1988, in Khandaker Bari, Garduara Union, Nakla Upazila, Sherpur District. He passed his SSC from Mollar Tech Udayan School in 2004 and his HSC from Phulpur Degree College. Later, he obtained a master's degree from the National University.

He joined the Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defense on August 24, 2016. During his service life, he served as a station officer at Manikganj and Narayanganj Fire Stations. Later, he was promoted and worked as a Warehouse Inspector at Chittagong and lastly at Tongi Fire Station. In his personal life, he was married and had one child. His father is Khandaker Mozammel Haque and mother is Delwara Begum.

The notification further said that members of the Fire Service always risk their lives in risky missions involving fire accidents. So far, 51 brave members of the fire service have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. The latest to join this glorious procession of sacrifices is the name of Khandaker Jannatul Naeem.
