BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that an opportunity has been created to return to the democratic system. The only way to return to the democratic system is through fair, free and impartial elections. There is no alternative path for democracy. Democracy is not established by the collective decisions of a few.
He said this at a discussion meeting at the Engineers Institute in the capital on Friday (October 10). The discussion meeting was organized on the occasion of the martyrdom anniversary of Naziruddin Jehad, a martyr in the anti-dictatorship mass movement.
Mirza Fakhrul said that no matter how much we reform, intellectuals try to discover strategies together, but we will not be able to return to democracy until we establish an elected government through elections.
He also said that the people of Bangladesh are democracy-loving, freedom-loving. They have repeatedly fought, struggled, and shed blood for freedom. Unfortunately, the people have repeatedly stumbled in that struggle. Every time they stumbled, they have stood up again and achieved victory through movement and struggle.
He said that if Hasina is just called 'Hasina', he would be given some respect and said, Monster Hasina has ruined everything in the country. She has created chaos in the country's judicial system, administration, election system, our economy, health, education - everywhere.
Fakhrul said, some people or organizations claim the July Movement as their movement. BNP has been fighting for democracy all along.
Criticizing the statement of the party's chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari that if NCP is not given the Shapla mark, the paddy sheaf will have to be canceled; Mirza Fakhrul said, "Brother, we did not stop your mark. The Election Commission will decide which mark to give you. Why is there unnecessary tension over BNP's paddy sheaf? Because the paddy sheaf is irresistible. Slogans of paddy sheaf have been raised all over the country.
Commenting that efforts are being made to stop the paddy sheaf, he said, if the paddy sheaf wins, the conspirators will be forced to leave Bangladesh.
In the president's speech, Shaheed Jehad Smriti Parishad President and BNP Chairperson's Advisor Aman Ullah Aman recalled the memories of the 1990 mass uprising and said, "The Zia family was still on the side of the people then, and still is." Tarique Rahman was vocal against the fascist Sheikh Hasina, and is still there. Those who talk about the 'PR' method actually do not want elections, nor do they want democracy. He said, "Bangladesh comes first, not Delhi, or Pindi; Bangladesh comes first."
