Government is prepared to hold national elections in February: Home Affairs Advisor

Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said that the government has completed all preparations to organize the national elections in February.

In a briefing after the meeting of the Law and Order Core Committee of the Home Ministry at the Secretariat on Monday (October 20), he said, "We will not have any problem in organizing the upcoming national elections. The government is fully prepared."

He sought the cooperation of all concerned, especially the media, for the successful organization of the elections.

In response to journalists' questions, the Home Affairs Advisor said that body-worn cameras will be purchased following the due process, for which the government has allocated Tk 4 billion. He also said that those who served in the last three national elections will be prevented from their duties this time and law enforcement members are being trained to ensure a fair election.

When asked about the possibility of sabotage in several recent fires, including at the Cargo Village at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, he said that multiple committees are working to investigate these incidents. The real cause of the fires will be known once the investigation reports are received.

The Home Affairs Advisor also said that e-passport services will be introduced in Bangladeshi missions abroad by December. In addition, the government is considering reducing passport fees for expatriates and improving the quality of airport services.
