64 more Palestinians have been killed in an Israeli attack on the besieged Gaza Strip in a single day. Thirteen people lost their lives in Gaza today while receiving humanitarian aid.
On the other hand, three more have died from starvation and malnutrition. The Israeli operation in Gaza has intensified and killings and displacement have increased in Gaza City. This information was reported by Al Jazeera in a report on Wednesday (August 27).
The media outlet says that Israeli forces have entered deeper into Gaza City, the largest city in Gaza. Entire neighborhoods are being destroyed, leaving Palestinian families with nowhere to take refuge. In the meantime, the famine caused by the Israeli blockade has taken a terrible shape.
At least five Palestinians were killed and many others injured in an Israeli attack on a crowded market in the eastern part of Gaza City on Tuesday. Sources at Al-Ahli Arab Hospital said two women were among the dead.
Video verified by Al Jazeera showed people fleeing the As-Saftawy area in northern Gaza due to Israeli attacks. Israel is trying to force about a million people south into a “concentration zone.”
The images show long lines of men, women and children walking on dusty streets filled with rubble. Some are carrying bags, blankets and cots, others are carrying small items in wheelbarrows, while others are walking holding small children by the hand.
According to the Palestinian Civil Defense, Israel has completely destroyed more than 1,000 buildings in the Zaytoun and Sabra areas of Gaza City in the ongoing operation that began on August 6.
Gaza City resident and author Sara Awad says Palestinian families face a difficult choice every day: whether to risk the constant bombardment of their homes or become refugees again. "I always think, 'Why should I flee and live in a tent, when my home is here? Every day I see families leaving their homes, but they have nowhere to go.'"
According to Awad, it now feels like Palestinians are living out their last days in Gaza City.
Hospital sources told Al Jazeera that at least 64 Palestinians have been killed in the Israeli offensive that began early Tuesday, including 13 who died while waiting in line for aid.
Since the US- and Israeli-backed GHF took over the distribution of aid in late May, more than 2,100 Palestinians have been killed while trying to collect aid, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
The UN's humanitarian office (OCHA) has warned in its latest report that hunger in the Gaza Strip is worsening, with casualties rising and emergency services collapsing.
The Gaza Health Ministry said three more people had died of starvation in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths from starvation since October 7 last year to 303, including 117 children.
