Shaheed Noor Hossain Day is being observed today for bringing down the then dictator in the late nineties.
On this day in 1987, the streets of Dhaka were stained with Noor Hossain's blood. His sacrifice took the movement of people seeking democracy towards its inevitable end.
He was protesting by writing 'Liberate democracy, overthrow autocracy' on his body. At that time, the police shot him. The day of his death is also observed as Democracy Liberation Day.
November 10, 1987, was a day of violent movement of the angry people against the military dictator. On this day, in addition to Noor Hossain, another leader of the Jubo League, Nurul Huda Babul, and Aminul Huda Tito, a farm labor leader from Bajitpur, Kishoreganj, were martyred. On that day, Noor Hossain also took to the streets as a poster of life along with thousands of protesting youth. Various political parties and organizations will observe the day today through various programs.
In the struggle for the establishment of democracy, the fearless Nur Hossain of that time was forced to bow down to the powerful autocracy. The forces unleashed by the autocracy opened fire indiscriminately, leaving Nur Hossain heartbroken. With his sacrifice, the anti-autocracy movement gained momentum and the struggle of the three alliances became irresistible.
